Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has expressed the readiness of his administration to key into the opportunities in the Petroleum Act for the benefit of the citizens of the state.

Bello made this known through his Deputy, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso during a courtesy visit by members of the Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission led by the Chairman Isah Ibrahim Isah Modibo, in Minna.

He said the government will make out time to study the Act to find areas, where Niger State can take advantage of for the good of the state and the people.

Ketso noted that the unbundling of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) by the Federal Government to ensure states and other individuals benefit from the sector was a landmark achievement.

He stated, “I have no doubt that the state will benefit immensely from the opportunities that abound in the Act. We will improve on our technical colleges in such a way that Nigerlites will be able to participate actively in the oil industry. I am optimistic that the state will benefit and add value to the sector. The state will work very closely with the Commission”.

The Deputy Governor thanked the Commission for the visit while appealing to the chairman to assist the state in areas he believed the state can fit in and benefit.

The Chairman of the commission, Isah Ibrahim Modibo had earlier told the Governor that they were in the state to brief him on the operations of the commission and the opportunities in the sector.

Modibo said, ” within the Petroleum Act there is the development of the frontier basin which Niger State is part of. The whole idea is to utilize our resources in such a way that the energy sector will be keyed into the national economy to reduce dependency and open opportunities and possibilities that abound there to the state”.

The chairman added, “Nigeria has the largest gas reserves but they are being underutilized, and when fully utilized there would be employment opportunities for our teeming youth. Poverty is a human creation and as leaders, there is the need to find ways to eliminate poverty in our society”.
