Manchester United flop Matteo Darmian puts Inter Milan closer to beating Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo to Serie A title, and ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte celebrates wildly

Inter Milan have moved a step closer to beating Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo to the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri beat Cagliari 1-0 on Sunday, putting them once again 11 points ahead of rivals AC Milan.

With eight games to go in Italy, Internazionale are also 12 points ahead of Juve, who have won the last NINE Scudettos.

Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte was delighted by the win and ran onto the pitch to celebrate with his players when they struck on 77 minutes.

Ex-Chelsea boss Conte has built a team with several former Premier League players and while Romelu Lukaku has been their main man, scoring 21 goals, Matteo Darmian ended up being the match-winner.

The former Manchester United defender, playing a left wing-back, was found at the back post by Achraf Hakimi and able to tap home with ease to seal the three points.

“We were up against a good team today that defended well from the start. When you’re facing a team that closes the spaces, it’s always difficult to break the deadlock, but it’s a very important victory for our campaign,” Darmian told DAZN.

“We all feel part of the group, we all feel important, and we know that we’re all going to be ready when called upon, as there’s still a long way to go before the end of the season.

Darmian tapped home at the far post

“Everyone knows the coach is so passionate, he puts his heart and soul into it, and we are very happy with these fundamental three points.

“This win was an important sign on a psychological level to the chasing pack.”
