Gunmen Set Ablaze Abia Police Station

Unknown gunmen on Wednesday attacked Nkporo police station in Ohafia government area of Abia State, setting the main building on fire.

The gunmen who burnt exhibits, including motorcycles and cars at the station, also released some suspects in detention during the attack.

It was gathered that the situation was said to have left many residents and indigenes of the area apprehensive.

Efforts to get Abia police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna were unsuccessful.

He didn’t pick calls or respond to text messages.

Nkporo is the hometown of Abia Deputy Governor Ude Oko Chukwu.

This is coming barely two days after gunmen razed the Okigwe South Police Area Command situated in Orieagu in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

A police officer at the headquarters noted that the gunmen on arrival at the station opened fire on the cops who challenged them.

It was gathered that the armed men also release all the suspects in the cells and carted away their arms.

The source further stated that not less than five policemen were shot dead by the attackers as they set the security facility on fire.

The source said, “Our area command headquarters in Okigwe south is on fire. Six policemen shot dead. They also freed the suspects before igniting a fire on the facility.”
