Four Words Nigerian parents use, instead of ” i love you”
We can agree that Nigerian parents have a peculiar way of parenting , it may not be acceptable by normal standards of training but they always do these things with our interest in their way. It’s almost impossible for Nigerian parents to tell their kids they love them. Hence these are words they have coined :
“I hope you locked the door”: this is their way of knowing and checking whether you are taking safety measures properly before going to bed. It’s their way of tellliing you to stay safe through the night and also of course that they love
” If you like , don’t take your studies seriously” : this is their way of sending admonitions , prayers and Goodwill to you when you are leaving for the University.
” Bring your plate , let me add one meat for you: this is the sign that they really appreciate the little things you do for them. They are showing you they love and appreciate you
“Is that all”: they say this after you tell them what’s bothering you. When they say this , they are actually worried about your well being and want to assure you that they can handle things with their love and support
