Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be ‘fantastic’ Manchester United signing as Erliang Haaland and Harry Kane alternative – Rio Ferdinand says Everton striker would make a ‘big impact’

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a ‘fantastic’ signing as an alternative to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

The Everton striker has everything it takes to be a hit and would make a ‘big impact’ at Old Trafford, claims the former England defender.

Calvert-Lewin has been in great goalscoring form for Everton this season

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the hunt for a new striker to lead his forward line this summer, with the club firmly in the hunt for both Haaland and Kane.

However, it appears all of Europe’s elite clubs are keen on signing the Borussia Dortmund ace this summer, and it’s unclear whether United can afford to pay top dollar for a readymade star.

With Dortmund in a position to hold out for the best price for 20-year-old Haaland, and Spurs likely to demand over £100million for Kane and chairman Daniel Levy possibly refusing to sell to a Premier League rivals, United may be forced to search for alternatives.

Ferdinand insists they shouldn’t look too far for their next striker, though… around 30 miles in fact, as he believes Everton’s Calvert-Lewin would be a superb signing for the Red Devils.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant rise at Goodison Park over the last 18 months.

He has 19 goals and four assists in 32 games this season and also has four goals in seven appearances for England.

“I’ve watched a lot of Everton this year and he’s one that unnerves defenders,” said Ferdinand on his FIVE YouTube channel.

“He’s not one you want to play against week in, week out. He’s aggressive, he attacks the ball.

“I was speaking to Carlo Ancelotti earlier this year and he mentioned Inzaghi and said he didn’t need many chances to score goals and he scores goals in and around the six-yard box.

“I look at Calvert-Lewin this season and he’s listened to that, he’s taken that on board.

“Obviously he seems a real good student of the game and he’s started putting that into his own game. We’ve seen the rewards he’s had, he’s got into the England squad by scoring loads of goals in and around the six-yard box – scoring those ugly goals.

“I think he’d be a fantastic signing for Manchester United.

“It’s one out of left field a little bit, but I think he’d have a big impact. He’d get on the end of the things created by Fernandes, Pogba, Rashford, Greenwood etc.

“It’s whether Ole sees that as something that is feasible or am I not going to get the likes of Haaland or Kane? If either of those come up they’ll be first choice as long as the money is not crazy and it’s doable.”
